Biotech Data Scientist (Consultant/Contractor)

Company Overview

TECQMIND is an end-to-end AI professional services and staffing partner focused on the "how." In the Biotech sector, we deploy elite technical talent to bridge the gap between biological research and computational discovery. We help our clients turn massive biological datasets into proprietary IP and life-saving innovations.

This is a contract position where the candidate will be hired by TECQMIND and deployed to work directly with one of our premier Biotech clients.

The Role

As a Biotech Data Scientist, you are a scientific detective. You will apply advanced statistical modeling, machine learning, and data visualization to complex biological datasets. Your goal is to generate actionable insights that accelerate drug discovery, optimize clinical trials, or improve patient outcomes.

You will collaborate closely with wet-lab scientists and our Bioinformatics Engineers to ensure that data-driven insights are biologically sound and statistically robust.

Key Responsibilities

  • Predictive Modeling: Develop and validate machine learning models for tasks such as drug-target interaction, protein structure prediction, or patient stratification.

  • Statistical Analysis: Design and execute complex statistical analyses for clinical or preclinical studies, ensuring results meet the highest scientific and regulatory standards.

  • Experimental Design: Collaborate with laboratory scientists to design "AI-optimized" experiments that produce high-quality, high-signal data.

  • Data Storytelling: Translate complex computational findings into clear, visual, and persuasive narratives for stakeholders, including R&D leads and investors.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with Taiwan-based tech teams to integrate proprietary algorithms into production-scale AI infrastructure.

  • Custom Tooling: Develop custom scripts and notebooks (Python/R) to explore multi-omic data (Genomics, Proteomics, Transcriptomics).

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Ph.D. or Master’s in Data Science, Statistics, Computational Biology, or a related field with a heavy emphasis on biological applications.

  • Technical Stack: Mastery of Python (Scikit-learn, PyTorch/TensorFlow) and/or R (Bioconductor, Tidyverse).

  • Statistical Depth: Strong foundation in Bayesian statistics, hypothesis testing, and high-dimensional data analysis.

  • Bio-Domain Expertise: Experience working with biological data formats (FASTA, VCF, BAM) and public databases (TCGA, NCBI, Ensembl).

  • Contractor Mindset: Ability to quickly understand a client's unique scientific problem and deliver measurable results within defined project timelines.

Highly Desired: Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual Proficiency: Professional fluency in English and Mandarin (written and verbal). This is highly valuable for clients collaborating with research institutes or clinical trial sites in Taiwan.

  • Cloud Proficiency: Experience performing large-scale analysis on AWS (SageMaker) or GCP (Vertex AI).

  • Scientific Publishing: A track record of contributing to peer-reviewed scientific publications is a major plus.
